A particularly small but very useable “country posh” mahogany and elm tripod table designed to hold a glass or a candle stick. The top is a single plank of Cuban mahogany raised on an elm baluster and elm cabriole legs. The top tilts and, what is great to see, it has a mark on the stem where the tilting top has touched it for hundreds of years (see photo).  Wonderful colour and surface. English, circa 1765.
