To quote from ‘Irish Country Furniture 1700-1950′ by Claudia Kinmonth: “Very few examples of this ingenious space and timber saving device have survived intact outside museums”. This rare example of a falling table (bord crochta in Irish)  has a folding bold and elegant turned leg and understructure. The top is two plank and the whole has the original madder paint. A very clever and satisfying piece of furniture. Irish, circa 1840.
