This lovely survivor of the West Country Barnstable Pottery has attractive brown squiggle slip and is showing all the wear and fritting of much use. Its oval shape is acquired by throwing it circular, cutting the middle bit out and then sticking it back together again before firing. Devon, England, circa 1860.
